AI is Not Magic
It's just a tool and it's fine.
It's been thrilling and shocking to see how AI has risen over the past few years. It's really unbelievable. I remember when I started experimenting with generative AI back in 2022 when Midjourney first came out. It was very raw, beta, and very far from perfect. A lot of errors in hands, especially fingers, and very weird looking faces. Now four years later it's very close to being perfect. It's scary and amazing at the same time.
Before AI, I spent so many hours on stock websites just to find a perfect image. Now you can just generate it within a few seconds. But remember, generative AI is just a tool. Nothing more. Maybe depending on what we're seeing on social media, people will argue about AI. But for generative AI, I couldn't see more than just a tool.
Why I Call It Just a Tool
There's this asshole in my office who keeps coming to our department for work. Every time, he said same thing. "Now the designers are gonna be extinct. AI will replace you guys." First time I heard it, I just ignored him. Second time he said it, I just had to say something. I told him. "AI will never replace us. You know why? Because AI doesn't have a brain. AI can't think like we do."
That's it. That's why I believe AI is just a tool. The great ideas only come from our human brain, not from AI. We humans have this very magical thing called a brain that can generate great ideas. If you don't believe, go and ask ChatGPT to create a campaign for you. Watch what it gives you. Basic shit. Everything people are already doing. Not creative. Not bold. Not great. That's the gap between AI and humans.
